Liposuction in Saint-Tropez - Refined silhouette by Dr Stéphane Raoult

Overview of
Liposuction

Dr Stéphane Raoult performs liposuction procedures at the Clinique du Golfe in Gassin, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is not intended for weight loss or the treatment of obesity, but rather to reshape the silhouette by eliminating excess fat cells through fine cannulas inserted via very small incisions.

It can be performed on many areas of the body: saddlebags, hips, abdomen, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, arms, as well as the face and neck (double chin, jawline).

Current techniques allow for more precise fat removal and improved skin retraction.

The Care Pathway for
Liposuction

Before the Procedure

A preoperative assessment is performed according to the surgeon's prescriptions.

A consultation with the anesthesiologist takes place no later than 48 hours before the procedure.

Certain recommendations must be followed:

Recommendations:
  • No anticoagulants or products affecting blood clotting should be used, unless otherwise advised by the anesthesiologist.
  • Smoking cessation is required 3 to 4 weeks before the procedure, due to its impact on healing.
  • The anesthesiologist will provide specific instructions for this procedure.

The Surgical Procedure

The technique may vary from one surgeon to another, but always relies on the same principles:

  • Short incisions (3 to 4 mm) are made, usually hidden in a natural skin fold.
  • Fat is removed using blunt-tipped cannulas, creating a regular network of tunnels while preserving blood vessels and nerves.
  • The amount of fat extracted is adapted to the skin quality, a key factor in achieving a good result.
  • At the end of the procedure, a shaping dressing is applied, always combined with a compression garment or panty.

The total duration depends on the areas and volume to be treated: from 30 minutes to 3 hours, averaging 1 to 2 hours.

After the Procedure

Recovery depends on the amount of fat removed.

  • Bruising and swelling (edema) appear in the treated areas.
  • Pain is moderate thanks to the use of fine cannulas.
  • Fatigue may be felt in the first days in cases of extensive liposuction.

Resuming activities:

  • Normal activity: between 3 and 6 days depending on the extent of the procedure.
  • Sports: after 3 weeks.
  • Compression garment: to be worn for 3 to 6 weeks.

Progress:

  • The first 15–20 days are still marked by bruising and swelling.
  • The result begins to appear from 3 weeks onward, after the edema subsides.
  • The skin gradually retracts over 3 to 6 months to reveal the final silhouette.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Liposuction is not a weight loss method and does not replace a balanced diet or healthy lifestyle. It only aims to remove localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. The patient's overall weight changes very little, but the silhouette improves progressively over the 3 months following the procedure.
Yes. The fat cells removed by liposuction do not multiply again. This means that once suctioned, these areas do not create new fat cells. However, the remaining cells can increase in volume with weight gain, which is why maintaining a healthy lifestyle and stable weight is important.
Liposuction can treat many areas:
  • saddlebags
  • hips
  • abdomen
  • thighs and knees
  • calves and ankles
  • arms
  • face and neck (double chin, jawline)
It can address both deep and superficial fat thanks to fine cannulas.
Yes. Smoking is not a strict contraindication, but it is strongly recommended to stop at least one month before the procedure. Smoking significantly increases the risks of poor healing and compromised results.
No anticoagulants or products affecting blood clotting should be used, unless otherwise advised by the anesthesiologist.
Depending on the areas to be treated and the extent of the procedure, liposuction can be performed:
  • under local anesthesia,
  • under deep local anesthesia ("twilight sedation"),
  • or under general anesthesia.
The choice is determined in consultation with the surgeon and the anesthesiologist.
The duration varies depending on the areas and volume to be removed: from 30 minutes to 3 hours, with an average of 1 to 2 hours. The more extensive the procedure, the longer the operating time.
The procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis at the Clinique du Golfe (Gassin). For more extensive procedures, an overnight stay may be recommended.
Dr Stéphane Raoult welcomes you at his office located in Gassin, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, for a personalized assessment of your liposuction project.
The treated areas remain swollen for several weeks. The first glimpse of the result appears around 3 weeks, after the edema subsides. The final result is visible after 6 months, once the skin has retracted and adapted to the new contours.
Yes. Wearing a compression garment (girdle or panty) is recommended for 3 to 6 weeks. This garment helps the skin redrape properly and reduces swelling, thereby improving the final result of the liposuction.
