Breast reduction in Saint-Tropez - Breast hypertrophy correction by Dr Stéphane Raoult plastic surgeon

Overview of
Breast Reduction

Dr Stéphane Raoult performs breast reduction procedures at the Clinique du Golfe de Saint-Tropez in Gassin, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Breast reduction reduces excessively large breast volume, which is often responsible for neck, shoulder, and back pain, clothing difficulties, and discomfort in daily activities.

The procedure involves removing excess glandular tissue, repositioning the areola, and reshaping the gland to achieve a more harmonious bust in proportion with the patient's figure.

The scars depend on the volume removed and the breast shape, but current techniques provide a natural and long-lasting result, with a significant improvement in physical comfort and well-being.

The Care Pathway for
Breast Reduction

Before the Procedure

A preoperative assessment is carried out according to the surgeon's prescriptions.

A consultation with the anesthesiologist takes place no later than 48 hours before the procedure.

Recommendations:
  • No anticoagulants or products affecting blood clotting should be used, unless otherwise advised by the anesthesiologist.
  • Smoking cessation is required 3 to 4 weeks before the procedure, due to its impact on wound healing.
  • The anesthesiologist will provide specific instructions for this procedure.

The Procedure

Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon removes excess glandular tissue, reshapes the remaining volume, re-centers the gland, and repositions the areola.

  • Excess skin is removed to achieve a harmonious shape.
  • Scars may be inverted-T shaped or reduced depending on the extent of the hypertrophy.
  • The procedure generally lasts 2 to 4 hours.

At the end of the operation, a shaping dressing is applied and a compression bra is worn for approximately 6 weeks.

After the Procedure

Recovery is generally moderately uncomfortable. Swelling, bruising, and difficulty raising the arms are common in the first few days.

  • A lighter dressing is applied after 48 hours.
  • A compression bra is worn day and night for approximately 6 weeks.
  • A recovery period of 8 to 15 days is recommended.
  • Sports activities can be resumed approximately 8 weeks after the operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing excessively large breast volume. It involves removing excess glandular tissue, correcting ptosis, and reshaping the bust to achieve two harmonious breasts adapted to the patient's body type.
Excessively large breasts can cause neck, shoulder, and back pain, hinder sports activities, make dressing difficult, and cause psychological distress. This is why breast reduction may sometimes be covered by the French National Health Insurance.
Yes. Breast reduction addresses both excessive volume and ptosis, by repositioning the areola and reshaping the breast to restore a natural shape.
The procedure can be performed once breast development is complete, and then at any adult age.
Depending on the extent of the hypertrophy, scars may take the form of an inverted-T (around the areola, vertical, and horizontal in the inframammary fold) or be limited to a periareolar and vertical scar if the reduction is less significant.
No. Pregnancy is still possible after the procedure, following a 6-month waiting period. In some cases, breastfeeding may be affected.
Recovery is generally moderate: swelling, bruising, and difficulty raising the arms are common. A compression bra must be worn for approximately 6 weeks, and sports activities can be resumed after about 2 months.
The final result of a breast reduction can be evaluated after approximately one year, allowing time for the bust to soften, the scars to fade, and the shape to stabilize.
No. Breast reduction does not increase the risk of cancer. The removed tissues are systematically analyzed in the laboratory.
Dr Stéphane Raoult welcomes you at his office located in Gassin, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, for a personalized assessment of your breast reduction project.
The result is long-lasting, but like any natural breast, operated breasts remain sensitive to hormonal changes, aging, and weight fluctuations.
