Breast lift in Saint-Tropez - Breast ptosis correction by Dr Stéphane Raoult plastic surgeon

Overview of the
Breast Lift

Dr Stéphane Raoult performs breast lift procedures at the Clinique du Golfe de Saint-Tropez in Gassin, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Breast ptosis refers to sagging of the breast, caused by the descent of the gland and stretching of the overlying skin. It may occur after pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or simply be naturally present.

The procedure aims to reposition the areola and nipple, re-center the gland, and remove excess skin to achieve firmer, more symmetrical, and beautifully shaped breasts.

Depending on the degree of ptosis, several techniques exist: a periareolar scar alone (for minor ptosis), a periareolar and vertical scar, or an inverted-T scar (when sagging is more significant).

The Care Pathway for the
Breast Lift

Before the Procedure

A preoperative assessment is carried out according to the surgeon's prescriptions.

A consultation with the anesthesiologist takes place no later than 48 hours before the procedure.

Recommendations:
  • No anticoagulants or products affecting blood clotting should be used, unless otherwise advised by the anesthesiologist.
  • Smoking cessation is required 3 to 4 weeks before the procedure, due to its impact on wound healing.
  • The anesthesiologist will provide specific instructions for this procedure.

The Procedure

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon reshapes the breast by repositioning the areola and nipple, re-centering the gland, and removing excess skin.

  • Periareolar only for very mild ptosis.
  • Periareolar + vertical for moderate ptosis.
  • Inverted-T for significant ptosis.

If ptosis is associated with a lack of volume, an implant can be placed during the same procedure. The operation generally lasts between 1.5 and 3 hours.

After the Procedure

Postoperative recovery is generally moderate. Swelling, bruising, and difficulty raising the arms are common.

  • The initial dressing is removed 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.
  • A compression bra is worn day and night for 4 to 6 weeks.
  • A recovery period of 7 to 10 days is recommended.
  • Sports activities should wait 6 to 8 weeks.

The final result can be appreciated after approximately one year, allowing time for the scars to fade and the breast to stabilize.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast ptosis refers to sagging of the breast: the gland descends, the skin stretches, and the breast appears "empty" in its upper portion. It may be caused by pregnancy, significant weight loss, or simply develop naturally over time.
No. When the skin is stretched and the gland has descended, only a surgical procedure can reposition the areola, tighten the skin, and restore a harmonious shape.
Not necessarily. The breast lift corrects the shape and lifts the breasts but does not increase volume. If a lack of volume is present, implants can be placed or breast lipofilling can be performed (using the patient's own fat) during the same procedure.
The scars depend on the degree of ptosis: periareolar only, periareolar + vertical, or inverted-T. They gradually fade but never completely disappear.
Yes. Pregnancy and breastfeeding remain possible, but it is recommended to wait approximately 6 months after the procedure.
Sensitivity may be temporarily reduced, especially around the areola, but it generally returns over time.
An outpatient stay at the Clinique du Golfe de Saint-Tropez (Gassin) or an overnight stay is usually recommended after a breast lift.
It is generally moderate. Simple pain relievers are usually sufficient. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort with arm movements are common.

A recovery period of 7 to 10 days is recommended before returning to work. Sports activities should wait 6 to 8 weeks.
It takes approximately one year to appreciate the definitive result, allowing time for the breast shape to stabilize and the scars to fade.
