Overview of
Blepharoplasty

Dr Stéphane Raoult performs blepharoplasty procedures at the Clinique du Golfe in Gassin, in the heart of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic eyelid surgery procedure that aims to erase signs of fatigue, excess skin, and puffiness related to aging or facial morphology.

It rejuvenates the gaze, opens up the eyes, and immediately restores a more rested and radiant appearance to the face. Performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, it delivers a natural and long-lasting result for both women and men.

In some cases, lower eyelid surgery can be combined with a midface lift.

The Care Pathway for
Blepharoplasty

Before the Procedure

A preoperative assessment is carried out according to the surgeon's prescriptions.

A consultation with the anesthesiologist takes place no later than 48 hours before the procedure.

Recommendations:
  • No anticoagulants or products that interfere with blood clotting should be used, unless otherwise advised by the anesthesiologist.
  • Smoking cessation is required 3 to 4 weeks before the procedure, due to its impact on healing.
  • The anesthesiologist will provide specific instructions for this procedure.

The Procedure

The type of anesthesia depends on the areas to be treated: generally local anesthesia for the upper eyelids and general anesthesia for the lower eyelids.

The procedure lasts between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the extent of the surgery. The surgeon removes the excess skin or fat responsible for heavy eyelids or puffiness.

The change is visible as soon as the sutures are removed, and the final result appears after a few weeks.

After the Procedure

The eyelids may present swelling, some bruising, and a sensation of tightness, but without any real pain.

  • Discharge is generally on the same day.
  • Sutures are removed between the 5th and 8th day.
  • Depending on your profession, 5 to 10 days off work may be recommended.
  • Makeup is permitted after 2 weeks.

Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing and assess progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a surgical procedure that corrects eyelid imperfections, whether age-related or constitutional. It can treat the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or all four eyelids, by removing excess skin, wrinkles, or fat hernias that give a tired appearance.
Excess skin on the upper eyelids, drooping eyelids, under-eye bags, horizontal wrinkles on the lower eyelids, or a "tired" look are the main indications.
It can be performed from around the age of forty, for both men and women. It may even be indicated earlier when puffiness or imperfections are hereditary.
Yes. It can be combined with other procedures (to be discussed during the consultation), such as a cervico-facial lift (facelift).
The surgeon analyzes the gaze, discusses expectations, and proposes the safest solution to achieve the desired outcome. Before-and-after photos are taken, and alternative treatments (such as under-eye filler) may be recommended if more appropriate. A preoperative ophthalmological assessment is usually requested.
Depending on the areas treated: local anesthesia for the upper eyelids, general anesthesia for the lower eyelids. The duration of the procedure depends on the number of eyelids to be corrected.
It varies from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the areas operated on.
No real pain is reported, but tightness or eye irritation may occur. Swelling, some bruising, and tearing are common. Patients generally leave the same evening from the Clinique du Golfe in Gassin, in the immediate vicinity of Saint-Tropez.
Makeup is possible from the 2nd week, sutures are removed between the 5th and 8th day, and 5 to 10 days off work may be recommended depending on the activity.
The change is noticeable as soon as the sutures are removed, but the final result takes approximately 2 months to appear, as the swelling subsides.
